The SkyHawks, Canada’s only military parachute demonstration team, are soaring into Willow Point Park this Wednesday, July 29, at 12:30 pm.
Having performed for over 75 million spectators worldwide, the elite team is now gearing up to entertain Campbell River. Weather-permitting, jumpers will exit the aircraft at altitudes between 4,000 and 12,500 feet. Eagle-eyed observers may see them dropping test streamers at 2,500 feet to gauge the local winds, before executing their high-flying formations.
They will land in fields 4 and 5 after an aerial performance expected to last approximately 25 minutes, so spectators are encouraged to arrive early.
This year marks a major milestone for the SkyHawks as they celebrate their 55th anniversary season, marking a long tradition of choosing the best of the best.
According to a statement from the SkyHawks, “Team members are selected early in the year and undergo extensive training prior to the start of the season to ensure the highest level of professionalism and proficiency allowing them to perform complex parachute manoeuvres safely.”
The free, family-friendly event is suitable for spectators of all ages. Pack a lawn chair, binoculars, and arrive early to grab the perfect spot to enjoy this spectacular event in the park.
