A school in Black Creek had to go into hold and secure mode yesterday after a report of a possible weapon and associated threats.
Comox Valley RCMP including police dog services attended the school to assess the situation and according to a police statement, “circumstances were not as reported.”
Police say no weapon was found and no threat was substantiated, and the hold and secure was lifted once police confirmed there was no risk to students or staff.
“Reports involving potential violence in schools are always treated as urgent,” said Const. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP spokesperson. “In this case, the information was quickly investigated and found to be unfounded. The systems in place worked as intended, with school staff and police acting quickly to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Police caution that information circulating on social media doesn’t necessarily reflect reality, and that information involving youth can only be shared with limitations.
“The priority in these situations is always a timely response and ensuring safety,” police say.
