Starting today, drivers in the Campbellton area can expect intermittent road closures until early next year, while sewer mains are being upgraded.
The current system can no longer keep up with demand, especially during wet winter weather, when flows can exceed the system’s capacity and cause flooding on nearby streets.
“This project will upgrade key infrastructure to improve system performance and reduce the risk of overcapacity during wet weather,” says the city’s project page.
The city says this project will impact the sanitary Pump Station No. 2 at 1749 19th Avenue and all related infrastructure.
Starting today, September 8, there will be periodic full road closures on Redwood Street, between Island Highway and the lane north of Island Highway, and on the lane north of Island Highway, behind 1760 and 1740 Island Highway. There will also be periodic partial road closures on Highway 19A, between Petersen Road and Tamarac Street.
Local access will be maintained, and businesses within the project area will remain open throughout construction.
A contractor will be working on sewer main upgrades in the area, requiring traffic detours, and drivers may experience some delays. The construction work is expected to continue through to the end of the year. Some work, including final paving, will continue into 2027.
This work is being completed as part of the Campbellton Sewer System Upgrades project.
