BC Hydro making power moves on 16th Ave

If you’ve been wondering why the road is under construction along 16th Avenue, it’s BC Hydro improving electricity infrastructure.

“Construction continues for system improvements along 16th Avenue to help meet the growing power demand and reinforce capacity in the area. Minor traffic disruptions are expected,” says a statement from the public utility.

When the project was announced in January, BC Hydro said Campbell River’s electrical system is “nearing capacity” and needs upgrades to meet future demands and planned electrification projects.

BC Hydro is asking people to slow down, follow all posted signage, and obey the direction of traffic control.

“There have been repeated incidents of drivers ignoring traffic control, creating serious hazards for workers and other road users. Your cooperation is essential to keeping everyone safe,” the statement says. “Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this important work.”

Construction is expected to continue into summer.
