Black Creek whiskey featured among international giants in weekend sale

Connoisseurs of fine spirits will find local whiskey featured among international juggernauts in a special sale this weekend.

A unique offering from Shelter Point Distillery will be up for sale on Saturday, along with limited edition spirits from Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Japan, China, and Taiwan. It’s for the 20th annual BC Liquor Distribution Branch’s Premium Spirit Release, a one-day event which offers whiskies and other spirits from around the world usually not available on store shelves.

The Black Creek distillery’s Evans Family Reserve single malt whiskey, finished in Caribbean rum casks, will be available, rubbing shoulders with the Glenlivet 55 Year Old, the oldest whiskey ever released by a distillery, and listed for sale at $73,000 per bottle. Also featured will be the prestigious Bowman ARC 54, which sells for $108,000 per bottle.

The local offering is listed for sale at $85 per bottle, and will be available at BC Liquor stores in Courtenay. When the whiskey won the best single malt award in 2024 at the World Whiskies Awards, judges described it as featuring “crisp apple and stone fruit notes blend with warm citrus and bursts of lemon. The aroma combines mild toasted wood, dominant lemon citrus, golden syrup, herbal tones, and cooked apple.”

The sale starts at 8 am on Feb. 7. For availability of specific products, visit BC Liquor’s website or the brochure for the special event.
