After a month of relative peace, downtown businesses have once again been targeted in a spate of smash and grab attempts.
There’s been no word from law enforcement if the suspects behind a similar series of crimes almost exactly one month ago are involved, or if anyone has been arrested in connection with the July assaults on local storefronts.
In total, six businesses were targeted between August 14-17. Police haven’t said if any of the incidents involved theft.
Four Campbell River businesses suffered broken glass windows between approximately 1:30 am and 2:00 am on August 14, 2026. A suspect described as wearing all black with one yellow glove, one grey glove and associated to a red bicycle was captured on video surveillance.
On August 15, 2026, at around 6:15 am, another local business was targeted with a window smash.
On August 17, 2026, at around 2:00 am, police responded to a break and enter at a local restaurant which had its patio window smashed and two suspects were alleged to have entered the restaurant as a result.
Police are still gathering evidence and are working to identify if all these incidents are connected.
Police strongly encourage anyone witnessing suspicious activities to contact 911 at the time it is observed. Anyone with information about these incidents are asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
