Week-long downtown crime spree continues, police seek help

By Grant Warkentin

The vandals and thieves behind a week-long crime spree downtown remain at large, with a new spurt of smash-and-grabs this morning (Monday, July 20).

Campbell River RCMP are looking for public assistance to catch them.

“From July 13, 2026 at 4:28 am to July 20, 2026 at 4:30 am, the Campbell River RCMP have responded to nine break-and-enter incidents in the community’s downtown core,” says the latest statement from police.

“All of the incidents involve the smashing of glass at local businesses, with entry being made in seven of the nine attempts. The bulk of the incidents have occurred between 1:00 am and 6:00 am, with rocks and bricks used to break front doors and make entry to the businesses.”

Police say investigators are actively reviewing video and forensic evidence to try and identify the suspects, and have also significantly ramped up their downtown presence to help prevent more incidents.

Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have information regarding these ongoing thefts; people can contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
