There are currently 19 wildfires burning on Vancouver Island, most of them in the region between Campbell River and Port McNeill, with several new fires discovered on August 17.
According to the latest information from the BC Wildfire Service, eight of them are still out of control, eight are being held, and three are now under control, including the fire south of Fanny Bay which was discovered Saturday, August 15.
One of the new fires discovered today is in the northern part of Strathcona Provincial Park, near Nola and Tloos Lakes. Another new fire was discovered along the park’s northwestern boundaries, near Horseshoe Creek. A third was discovered in the region northwest of the park’s western boundaries.
All of the new fires are suspected to have been caused by lightning strikes, and all are small in size.
