The city has confirmed that a water main break was the likely cause of a landslide early this morning on the slope behind a condo complex at 350 South Island Highway.
No one was injured during the event.
Crews are now working to deal with the issue on Carnegie Street above the affected property.

Crews are also working to clean up the property below. Some photos and videos shared on social media show vehicles in the complex’s parking lot were affected by the landslide. Damages are currently unknown.
“Cleanup of the affected area is underway, primarily within the property’s parking area adjacent to the slope,” says an updated statement from the city. “As part of the preliminary site investigation, the city confirmed that a water main break occurred in the area in the early morning on October 2 which contributed to the slope failure.”
The city says crews are completing repairs to the water main and will “continue to monitor the site as required.” The city will also keep an eye on the slope and says “further assessment of the slope and incident will be conducted.”
The city says fire department personnel were called at 6:06 am on October 2 for a report of a possible landslide. The fire department attended the site and assessed the situation, determining that no evacuation of the building was required, and no injuries have been reported.
