UPDATE: wildfire near Gold River now under control

A new wildfire was spotted yesterday afternoon near the Village of Gold River, close to the Upana River, is now under control.

According to the Strathcona Emergency Program, a crew was on the scene shortly after the fire was identified. The Gold River Fire Department and BC Hydro also assisted and a second crew was dispatched in the evening to get the fire under control.

The fire started is next to the Head Bay Forest Service Road, also known as the Tree to Sea Drive, and the cause is currently under investigation.
