A new wildfire is currently out of control on the North Island, at the north end of Kalpit Lake.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was likely caused be recent lightning strikes, and it’s just under 5 hectares in size.
“Currently there are two initial attack crews, a response officer, two helicopters, and an airtanker responding to this wildfire,” says the service. “At this time, there is no risk to values or critical infrastructure.”
There is currently only one other fire burning on Vancouver Island, northwest of Duncan near Mount Prevost. It was first discovered on July 6, and is now under control. It’s suspected to have been caused by human activity.
