The Village of Sayward has issued a public warning after a grizzly bear was spotted in the village on Monday, May 4.
“Please exercise extreme caution and help keep our community safe,” says a notice from the village.
Residents who spot the bear are asked to stay calm and back away slowly. Do not run. Do not approach the bear under any circumstances. Report the sighting to the BC Conservation RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
What You Should Do:
- Keep a safe distance and stay alert, especially at dawn and dusk
- Secure attractants (garbage, food, pet food, bird feeders)
- Supervise children and pets at all times
- Carry bear spray if outdoors and know how to use it
