Just Like Home Lodge entering the construction home stretch

By Grant Warkentin

After this summer, families who need to stay overnight in Campbell River during medical appointments will finally have a safe and affordable place to stay.

As well, health professionals who need to live in Campbell River temporarily while they work in the community will be able to access affordable housing just steps away from the hospital.

The Just Like Home Lodge project is entering the final stages of construction. This week the concrete slab was poured and finished (see featured image), and construction on the side closest to the hospital is progressing quickly, according to the latest update from the Strathcona Regional District (SRD).

Groundbreaking for the project was in October 2025, and it’s looking like it will be finished in time for the one year anniversary, with construction expected to be complete in summer.

For out-of-town travellers, the lodge will have 10 units with communal living space, a shared kitchen, laundry, and day room facilities.

For health workers living in town temporarily, there will be 20 self-contained housing units (with one and two-bedroom and studio options), helping attract and retain essential workers to the region.

In 2019, the SRD started the “Just Like Home” program, helping travellers and temporary health care workers find a place to stay in a town with few affordable temporary accommodations. The program grew into a vision for a permanent Lodge, which was made possible thanks to additional contributions from the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, the Mailman family, and Seymour Pacific Homes.

Visit the regional district’s website to learn more about the Lodge and the history of the project.

  1. This is great! The Campbell River Hospital Foundation is so proud of the work that has gone into this project with it being our largest fundraising initiative in the history of the Foundation.
