By Grant Warkentin

Police are looking for help from the public to track down the person who stabbed and seriously injured a 53-year-old man on the streets last night.

Shortly before 8 pm, RCMP were called downtown to an altercation in the area of Cedar Street and 16th Avenue, near the Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope and the North Island Pharmacy which prescribes “safe supply” pills.

“The subsequent investigation of the disturbance led to the discovery of a 53-year-old man suffering from a serious stab wound,” says a statement from Campbell River RCMP. “Police contacted BC Emergency Health Services who attended to the scene and transported the man to hospital for treatment.

“At this time, police believe the incident to be a targeted attack with no risk to the general public.”

The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking witnesses to the event. Anyone with information related to the stabbing, or who may have video footage from dash cameras or surveillance cameras, is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
