A new show coming to Netflix for Earth Day will show off gardens and natural landscapes from the northern half of Vancouver Island.
Comedian Zach Galifianakis is the host of “This Is A Gardening Show,” which will debut on Netflix next month. It promises to be a light-hearted look at gardening, and how it has a positive effect on our daily lives.
The show will also feature Galifianakis’ trademark sense of humour.
“If I were to offer a remedy to the human condition, it would be a garden. Or acid,” he says in the promotional trailer for the show (shared below).
The show’s approach is literally hands-on and from the ground up, as Galafianakis travels around the region speaking with different farmers and gardeners. He learns about how to grow your own food, approaching the topic with a gentle sense of wonder and humour. The show also features hilarious interviews with kids, who help set him straight about his misconceptions while he learns about different types of gardening and farming practices.
“People have the potential in them to find beauty and happiness in all this, because I certainly have,” he says in the trailer.
Galafianakis owns property on Denman Island, which is what prompted him to explore the coastal gardening and farming scene. He “approaches the subject with curiousity and self-effacing humour, admitting that his goal is to learn alongside the audience,” says the show’s official description. “Ultimately, ‘This Is A Gardening Show’ is about the joy of connecting with the earth and people.”
If the show’s promotional material is any indication, expect locals to play a big part, along with familiar locations and local landmarks. The Comox school and Mount Washington are shown in the trailer.
The show is presented in six, 15-20 minute episodes which will be available on Netflix starting on April 22, Earth Day.
