Some trails in the Beaver Lodge Lands will be closed next week for spring maintenance.
The Ministry of Forests is letting the public know there will be crews at work from March 10-16 throughout the forest, mostly removing potentially hazardous trees. Every year a certified danger tree assessor evaluates trails, bridges, and parking lots in the lands to make sure they are safe for the public.
People should be aware that unidentified hazards may still exist in the 521-hectare forest, especially away from major trails. Anyone who identifies a potential hazard can notify the Campbell River Natural Forest District office by phone or email.
People are asked to respect all signs and instructions posted by the work crew, and to stay out of any areas marked as closed.
Trail users will also notice the area around the Simms Creek bridge crossing along the Norma’s Loop trail has been revitalized, with newly-planted vegetation. The streamside location is a popular spot for pets to get a drink and splash in the water, but over the years the vegetation has been heavily impacted. The new plants are intended to promote stream health, prevent erosion, and provide habitat for fish and wildlife. People are asked to respect the signs and fencing protecting the new growth.
Visit the Ministry’s website for more information about the Lands, including their history.
