Old downtown park getting new life as slo-pitch haven

Nunns Creek Park is getting a major overhaul which will excite sports fans.

While BC Hydro crews work on installing new power lines along 16th Avenue in front of the park, city crews have cleared trees, the skate park, and the ball diamonds. The old concession and storage buildings are gone, and so is the playground.

It’s all part of the Nunns Creek Park Enhancements Project, which the city says “will transform the park into a dedicated slo‑pitch hub, featuring four ball fields, including two multi‑use fields.”

The improvements will also include storage and concession space, along with upgraded washroom facilities. The existing logger sports installations will be maintained and integrated into the park design.

The public will have a chance this spring and summer to offer suggestions about the park’s new form.

“Input from existing park users, including slo-pitch, Campbell River Youth Soccer Association, logger sports, dog fanciers, and local event organizers, will be incorporated during the detailed design phase of this process,” the city says.

Site prep will continue until the end of this month, and construction will begin in earnest this summer once a contractor is selected.

  1. It’s a great upgrade and use of the ball park.
Question … why isn’t there concession and more washrooms at the sportsplex?
Thousands of kids and families are in need of food. My grandsons have been playing there for years, and there is no concession.
Come on … no food trucks… nothing.
The washroom at the disc golf / area is closed. It could be utilized .
